Be prepared for this potential gas hazard

Many of us use our gas appliances – such as furnaces, fireplaces, water heaters and dryers – more during the winter. If you have gas appliances with tubing that was used prior to 1977, there could be an issue with how the tubing is connected to the end pieces, which could result in a gas leak.

  • The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recommends replacing the uncoated brass connectors with plastic-coated brass or stainless-steel connectors.
  • LG&E strongly recommends replacing the tubing as well to ensure the connection is as safe as it can be. Consider having a licensed professional handle the job, including moving any appliances to inspect and, if necessary, repair the connections.
