H2 oh, that’s too hot! Keep water temperature at a safe level

No one likes to get burned. And, unfortunately, one of the easiest ways to experience that pain is through your water faucets. If your water gets too hot, it can only take a few seconds for you to get a serious burn injury. Following a few easy tips will help keep you and your family safe from hot water harm.

  • Check the temperature on your gas water heater. Make sure it is no higher than 120 degrees Fahrenheit. A child can be scalded within three seconds at a temperature of 125 degrees.
  • Install anti-scald devices on faucets and showerheads to prevent the water temperature from rising above 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Never put a child into the bathtub until you have checked the water temperature with your hand.
  • Make sure faucets are correctly labeled HOT and COLD.
  • Turn cold water on before hot water and turn hot water off before cold water.
